Changes in the management of gas safety and the registration of gas engineers. The Health and Safety Executive is responsible for gas safety generally and the competence and registration of everyone working in the gas industry. For the last 30 years or so this responsibility has been contracted out to CORGI and this contract ended on the 31st March 2009. From 1st April a new organisation called “GAS safe Register” is responsible for the registration and assessment of all people working in the Gas Industry. Their bright yellow triangular logo is shown on the right. From 1st April all gas work must be done by a “GAS safe” registered person or company and, as previously, it is illegal for anyone to undertake gas work unless they are suitably qualified and registered. There will be a national advertising and awareness campaign starting in March. CORGI
will change to a trade association for registered operatives in the
industry, providing technical support, tools and materials. Membership
is optional, but only available to those registered with “GAS
safe”. |
